Rivstart – A flying start to learning Swedish
Swedish Rivstart is a beginner’s and advanced learning material in Swedish as a foreign language and is aimed at people both in Sweden and abroad who want to learn the language. The learning material is also suitable for independent study. With a balance of humour and rigour, students get great opportunities to develop their skills in reading, writing, listening and conversing in Swedish.
The learning material contains a variety of text types and enjoyable tasks with a focus on communication. The design of the learning material helps students to easily navigate between different modules – grammar, facts about the Swedish language, useful words and phrases, and information about Sweden. The content and grammatical progression are based on the levels in the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Rivstart consists of a textbook, a workbook, and a web-based teacher’s guide. The learning material also includes a wealth of digital “extras”. These include self-correcting exercises, audio files and answers.
Repetition tasks consolidate knowledge and make language learning visible
In the new edition of Rivstart, the grammatical explanations in the textbook have been improved. There are also brief grammar tasks to introduce each content area. The workbook expands upon these explanations and provides systematic exercises for students to complete.
The rapid progression in Rivstart makes repetition especially important. Therefor, each chapter of the workbook now ends with two review sections – one for the current chapter and one for all the previous chapters. This helps students become aware of their language development and consolidate their language skills.
Teacher’s guide with lesson tips and material for photocopies
The digital teacher’s guide includes teaching tips, material that can be printed and photocopied, and tests for students to montior their own language development. The teacher’s guide also includes scripts for listening exercises. The licence for the teacher’s guide is valid for one teacher for 12 months.
Who can use Rivstart?
Rivstart is suitable for those who study Swedish as a foreign language at levels A1-C1, SFI Study Path 3, SVA Grundvux, beginners with study experience, corporate education in Swedish, and the courses SVA 1-3 in upper secondary school and adult education programmes.
Three levels of Rivstart
Once the students have completed Rivstart A1/A2, the teaching material continues with B1/B2 and B2/C1. B2/C1 will be released in 2027, and until then, it is perfectly fine to combine the third edition for A1/A2 and B1/B2 with the second edition of B2/C1.
